Where does the Selkirk Rex come from?

Thanks to the breeding efforts of Jeri Newman of Montana, a Persian breeder, the Selkirk Rex was developed. In 1987, when a woman at work in an animal shelter noticed a curly kitten, she took it to Ms. Newman where the cat was bred to a Persian male. The resulting litter had 3 curly kittens. Combined with the British, American and Exotic Shorthairs, the Selkirk Rex was recognized.
