The Oriental Shorthair is a Far Eastern breed. Like the Siamese they are native to Thailand. They were introduced to the U.S. in the 1970s. The Oriental Shorthair is a naturally occurring breed.
What does the Oriental Shorthair look like?
The Oriental Shorthair’s body is long and lithe, but they are not fragile. The head is wedge-shaped with a long, straight nose. Ears are quite large and pointed, continuing the wedge line. Eyes are almond shaped and slanted toward the nose. Legs are long and slim with small, oval paws. The tail is long and thin tapering to a point. The coat is short, fine and very soft, lying close to the body. There are over 300 colors and patterns available – solid, shaded, smoke, tabby and part-colored. There is also a long-haired Oriental cat.

A resounding YES! The Oriental Shorthair is an intelligent, curious, lively breed. An extrovert, it needs people and can’t get close enough to its family. It’s active and playful all its life.
