The Exotic Shorthair was bred in the United States by persons wanting the best of Persians without the long hair. It was bred using Persians and American shorthaired breeds in about 1960. The result is the Exotic Shorthair of today.
What do Exotic Shorthairs look like?
The Exotic Shorthair is a strong healthy cat. Its body is low to the ground with a broad chest. Legs are short, thick and strong. Paws are large and round. The head is round and massive with a short snub nose. Ears are small and round tipped. Coat is dense, plush, soft and stands out somewhat from the body. Colors are the same as for Persians. Eyes are large and round, set far apart. Eye colors are brilliant copper, blue or green, depending on coat color.
Do Exotic Shorthairs make good pets?
The Exotic Shorthair is the most affectionate of cats. It is somewhat livelier than the Persian. It has a calm and gentle demeanor and is good with other pets. The Exotic Shorthair is definitely a lap cat.
