The HSUS reports that some member of the U.S. Congress have removed the protective language to a provision banning horse slaughter on U.S. soil. There is a political campaign to bring horse slaughter back to the U.S. after a 5 year ban.
Just a reminder that while it was banned in the U.S., American horses have been brought to slaughter in Canada and Mexico where this inhumane, cruel practice continues as well as in other parts of the world.
We tend to forget that horses were once the backbone of early U.S. exploration and settlement. As the only mode of transportation in early times, horses performed the tasks asked of them intelligently and willingly, demonstrating to their humans their loyalty and love. In some parts of the world today, horses remain an important mode of transportation.
We urge you to contact your representatives and tell them not to bring horse slaughter back to the U.S.
The HSUS continues the fight against the barbaric practice of horse slaughter and the inhumane treatment of all animals.
