I have been keeping my eye on news about how the animals in Haiti are being affected by the devastating earthquake last week. Here is some information I thought was worth sharing. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is closely monitoring the response in Haiti to determine if and how they and others involved in animal welfare and health may assist in the Haiti response and recovery efforts. With disasters like this, the humanitarian rescue efforts will be the focus in Haiti for the first week or so. However, veterinarians are on standby to assist with the tragedy.
Once the immediate human needs have been met, the AVMA is ready to address the animal issues in any way they can. If you are interested in ongoing updates on this matter, you can follow the AVMA Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams (VMAT) on Twitter: @AVMAVMAT. To read more about what the AVMA has to say about the situation in Haiti, you can visit their website: http://www.avma.org/news/Haiti_earthquake/.
