ASPCA-Maryland Action to Help Animals

Maryland’s Governor, Martin O’Malley, signed 3 bills passed by the state legislature to help animals.

One of the bills closed a loophole in Maryland’s fighting law which added a prohibition on “baiting”. The State also prohibited the sale and possession of shark fins.

Finally, Maryland will have a statewide funded spay/neuter program. The program will be funded by adding a minimal fee on commercial pet food brands that are registered in the state. The fee will have almost no effect on those purchasing pet food, but will have a huge impact on controlling Maryland’s pet overpopulation problem.

Check with the ASPCA’s Advocacy Center on what you can do to help animals in your state.
