Pets in Movies

Pets play important roles in many Hollywood films. Sometimes the family pet is the main character and sometimes the supporting actor, but the are always adorable! Some famous movie pets are:

  • Marley, from Marley and Me starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. In this movie, a family learns important life lessons from their beloved dog.
  • Free Willy – While whales are not your typical pet, the boy in this movie has a close and loving relationship with Willy the whale.
  • Hotel for Dogs is a movie all about pets. The 2008 film “Hotel for Dogs” stars Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Kyla Pratt with Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon and Don Cheadle. Its main characters are two dogs named Juliette and Romeo.
  • Legally Blonde 2 features a dog named Bruiser which goes everywhere Reese Witherspoon goes.
  • Walt Disney’s Aristocats tells the story of a gang of street cats who rescue a catnapped high society cat and her kittens.
  • The 1939 film Wizard of Oz features the famous Toto.
  • 101 Dalmatians is the story of two Dalmatians who take on the evil Cruella De Vil, who steals Dalmatians in order to make them into a coat.
  • Charlotte’s Web tells the story of Wilbur the pig who is destined for the chopping block but manages to escape that fate due to the ingenuity of Charlotte the spider.
  • One of the most famous movie dogs is Lassie from Lassie Come Home. After being sold, Lassie makes the long dangerous journey back home.
  • Beethoven is a dog who walks into the Newton family home and quickly becomes part of the family, but must escape the clutches of an evil vet.
  • Another dog who finds his own way into a family’s home is Old Yeller. The dog appears on a ranch and becomes a great influence on the life of the boy who lives there.
  • Walt Disney’s Air Bud is the story of a boy who moves to a new town and whose only friend is a basketball-playing dog named Buddy.
  • Cats and Dogs is a movie about a supposed war going on between the dogs and cats of the world.
  • The Disney classic Lady and the Tramp is a love story between two dogs from very different economic backgrounds.
  • A runt piglet named Babe reaches his full potential with the help of his farm animal friends.
  • The story of the bond between a boy and a wild stallion is told in The Black Stallion.
  • Comic-strip star Garfield also appears in a movie named after him.
  • Stuart Little features a pet mouse who is an integral part of the family.
