The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill #108 – Nitro’s Law.
In 2008, Nitro was one of 7 dogs starved to death under the care of kennel owner, Steve Croley, at the High Caliber K-9 kennel in Youngstown, Ohio. Among 19 dogs found on the property, 7 emaciated bodies were found, including Nitro. The remaining dogs were in extremely poor condition.
Croley claimed that due to finances and the cost of dog food, he was unable to care for the dogs.
Nitro’s Law includes the following: “Prohibits owner, manager or employee of a kennel of dogs from committing cruel treatment of a companion animal, to give a prosecutor who prosecutes an owner, manager or employee of a kennel of dogs who commits cruel treatment of a companion animal, discretion in prosecuting the owner, manager or employee for the offense, and to remove certain language regarding the negligent treatment of companion animals.”
The bill now goes to Ohio’s Senate to vote it into law. We urge Ohio animal lovers to reach out to your Senator and encourage him/her to pass Nitro’s Law. It is time for animal abusers to pay for their cruel crimes.
