Recipes for Cats with Diabetes

Cats with diabetes should be fed a low-carbohydrate diet. After changing your cat’s diet, you will need to consult your vet about the possibility of lowering his insulin dosage so you don’t end up with a hypoglycemic crisis. All drastic diet changes should be made in consultation with a vet.

Squashed Turkey

1/2 Cup Chicken or turkey, cooked and shredded

1 hard-boiled egg

1/2 Cup squash, cooked

1 Tablespoon canola oil

Mix all ingredients together and serve. Add any supplements at serving time.

CHICKEN ‘ALL NAT BABY FOOD (from PetDiabetes.net)

1 package of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
distilled or filtered water.

Put chicken in a large kettle, cover with water. Bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer for half an hour or until pieces are cooked all the way through (thicker pieces may require more time – cook *THOROUGHLY* – you can’t burn it – just keep the water level over the chicken). Check regularly, and stir occasionally to keep chicken from sticking to bottom.

When done – let cool a bit, then place on breast and some of the cooking water into a blender, and blend smooth. Pour into bowl, repeat until all chicken is blended, then stir together.

Divide among small freezer-safe containers, and freeze. Defrost and use as needed!
