The Azawakh has an independent, reserved personality. Easily trained, it should be done with a gentle hand, otherwise the Azawakh can become either timid or aggressive and stubborn. However they are not recommended for families with young children as they may regard rough play as aggression and need constant supervision. They are distrustful of strangers. The Azawakh can adapt to apartment living but should have daily exercise, running in a secure, enclosed area. They are happy as couch potatoes as well.
