What is the origin of the French Bulldog?

Actually the French Bulldog is originally from England. When workers went to France they took their toy bulldogs along. The toys mixed with other dogs. French breeders produced the erect “bat ears.” American travelers discovered them in France, took some Frenchies back to the U.S. and developed them in the late 1800s.

What does the French Bulldog look like?

The French Bulldog is about 12 inches tall and weighs not more than 28 lbs. The head is large and square. The muzzle is short. Flews are broad and hanging. Ears are bat ears, eyes are round. The short tail is carried low. Hind legs are longer than forelegs. The coat is smooth and short. Colors are commonly brindle, fawn, white or piebald. Wrinkles on the face need regular cleaning. The coat needs occasional brushing.

What is the temperament of the French Bulldog?

Frenchies are outgoing, playful dogs. They need sensitive and consistent training. They misbehave with such charm, it’s difficult to scold them. Patience is necessary to house train them. Frenchies do best with older children. If raised with other pets, they will get along with them. They love to cuddle with their humans and enjoy lots of attention. Frenchies easily live in apartments but do need a daily walk. It should be noted that French Bulldogs are seriously sensitive to anesthesia.
