Earth Day is an annual event most commonly celebrated the 22nd of April. It is a day on which people around the world gather to participate in activities and demonstrations aimed at raising public awareness about environmental issues including air pollution, water pollution, habitat destruction, renewable energy, climate change, species losses, and environmental policies. This year, Earth Day will be celebrated for the forty-first time.

For animal lovers, Earth Day is an opportunity to focus on the world’s endangered species and conservation. Discovery News has listed the world’s top 10 most endangered species:

  1. Cuban Crocodile
  2. Grenada Dove
  3. Florida Bonneted Bat
  4. Green-Eyed Frog
  5. Hirola
  6. Ploughshare Tortoise
  7. Island Gray Fox
  8. Sumatran Orangutan
  9. Vaquita
  10. White-Headed Langur

All of these animals have come to the brink of extinction because of man’s influence on nature through industrialization, hunting, illegal trade and carelessness. On this Earth Day, please remember these animals and help stop more creatures from being added to the list.

Earth Day can be celebrated every day by making changes to your lifestyle to save energy and protect the environment as a whole. See our article, Be a Green Pet Owner, for some simple steps you can take to make a difference.
