The Cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. These large beautiful wild cats can reach speeds of 45-70 miles per hour. They can sustain the speed for up to 300 yards.
While they cannot reach the speed of cheetahs, there are breeds of domestic cats that can run very fast and accomplish great leaps and twist their bodies when falling, usually landing on their feet. Cats are generally agile and though some may be couch potatoes, there are some breeds that are athletic enough to please an active family.

The Egyptian Mau is the fastest of all domestic breeds, reaching a speed of up to 30 miles per hour. With it’s powerful legs, it is a high jumper.

The Manx, a cat that is known for its lack of a tail (although some have stumps or very short tails) is fast, agile and athletic.
The Siamese is highly intelligent and will teach itself to open closets, faucets, doors. An active kitty that can be kept busy learning agility, solving puzzles and more.
The Ocicat is a large cat that loves socializing with its human. It has the speed and agility to be a fine athlete.
The Oriental needs lots of attention and activity. It usually bonds with one person. This breed will create its own exercise and often gets into mischief.
Consider going to your local shelter where with the help of the staff, you can find an athletic cat. Too many of these wonderful pets are being euthanized, so think about saving a life and giving a shelter cat a loving home. There are also breed specific rescue organizations where you can choose a companion.
