Animal welfare organizations such as the ASPCA and the HSUS are asking people to contact their U.S Representatives concerning two amendments. Their votes are critical in protecting animals.
Ask them to:
Support the Campbell-DeFazio-Peters amendment to stop Wildlife Services use of taxpayer money to kill predators with inhumane methods such as poison and aerial gunning.
Oppose any amendment to fund horse slaughter plant inspections. The repeal of the current de-funding provision would cost taxpayers millions of dollars and pave the way for horse slaughter plants to reopen.
Up until 2007 there were a small number of foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the U.S. butchering horses for their meat which was then sent to Europe and Asia.
The threat looms with a 2012 Agriculture Appropriations bill because there may be an amendment attached to bring back horse slaughter.
