A Best Friends Animal Society project, Pup My Ride, aims to get pets out of shelters into areas where they can more easily find their forever homes. Best Friends delivers the pups to places that have partnered with them.
Thousands of puppy mill dogs face death yearly when those facilities claim they’ve outlived their “usefulness”, another way of saying they aren’t breeding anymore or are ill. Unless the dogs are rescued, they will be auctioned off to other breeders or killed.
Best Friends funds the project and coordinates with other participating organizations
Thanks to their contacts who rescue dogs from breeders who no longer want them, Best Friends is able to aid in saving them.
The lucky dogs who are able to be rescued and become part of the transport are delivered to receiving groups and shelters.
Supporting organizations are Sumter Logistics Inc., a disaster animal response team and the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
Groups and shelters who receive dogs from the transports are:
- Adopt-a-Dog
- Animal Haven
- Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF)
- Best Friends Animal Society
- Going to the Dogs Rescue
- Husky House
- Kent Animal Shelter
- Monmouth County SPCA
- Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Association
- Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge
- Second Chance Pet Adoption League
- Tiny Treasures Rescue
- Yorkie 911 Rescue Inc.
