What is the origin of the Telomian?
The Telomian is originally from Malaysia. It was raised by aborigines as pets, protecting the population from snakes and as hunters. The Telomian came to the U.S. in 1963 where improvements were made in the breed. The Telomian is similar to the Basenji with whom it probably shares its ancestry.
What does the Telomian look like?
This vigorous dog is 15-19 inches tall and weighs 18-30 lbs. depending on gender. The head is wedge-shaped with a wrinkled brow. The brown eyes are almond-shaped. Ears are erect and the tail is carried like a sickle. The coat is short and soft. Colors are all shades of brown with white markings on chest and feet. Regular brushing will keep the coat in good condition.
What is the temperament of the Telomian?
The Telomian is an intelligent, lively dog. They can be a bit difficult to train and an early start in training and socialization is recommended, always with a positive method. The Telomian loves to play and are wonderful with children. As with all dogs, they need exercise in the form of daily walks.

In Malaysia the Telomian was used as a hunter, watchdog and shepherd. They compete in coursing trials. The Telomian is esteemed as a companion dog, cheerful, clean with happy sounds similar to the Basenji.
