What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for reducing stress and promoting healing through relaxation.
Reiki is actually two Japanese words. Rei means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki means “life force energy.” It is practiced by the “laying on of hands.”
The idea is that if our life force energy is low, there is the likelihood of stress and illness and if it is high, we can feel healthy and happy.
While not a religion, Reiki is spiritual and is believed to come from God. It is said to work whether you are a believer or not.
Reiki seems to work well on animals as well as humans. It is another alternative approach to healing, affecting the psychological as well as physical well-being of the pet.
It has long been known that touching has a positive effect on living beings. When grooming or gently massaging your pet, you could be practicing Reiki with the gentle touch of your hands.
Reiki can also be practiced long distance for those with open minds. Even fish can respond to long distance Reiki.
Reiki practitioners, using a light touch, can channel healing energy through their hands.
Reiki pet sessions last about 20-30 minutes. While cats appear to be more receptive to the practice, it can be used with all pets. Those pets that prefer not to be touched can receive the energy from a small distance. The number of Reiki sessions required depends on each animal’s individual needs.
