The Billy was developed in France by G.H. du Rinault in the 19th century by crossings of hunting dogs now extinct.
What does the Billy look like?
Billys are 24-26 inches tall and weigh 55-70 lbs. The head is lean with a squarish muzzle. Eyes are dark. Ears are low-set, flat and pendant. The tail is long. The coat is short, smooth and hard. Color is white with orange or lemon spots. Groom by brushing regularly and checking ears.
What is the temperament of the Billy?
The Billy is a brave, obedient dog. While hunting in a pack, they do well together, but are often aggressive with other dogs when not busy. Early training and socialization is recommended. Billys require lots of vigorous exercise and are not for apartment living. They are difficult to recall when off-leash.
