The Brittany Spaniel has a sweet temperament, loving and gentle, but can be independent as well. Rough handling can make it timid, but the Brittany responds very well to gentle training. The Brittany is a hearty dog, agile and very active. Therefore it would not be happy living in apartment as it needs lots of exercise, daily long walks, loves the outdoors.

This dog loves to hunt, woodcock, partridge and hare. The Brittany even retrieves from water. It is resistant to cold and damp and is a favorite with hunters, particularly because its size makes it easy to go from place to place. The Brittany is also a companion dog and will be good with children if raised with them.
