Also known as the Sicilian Greyhound, the Cerneco’s origins can be found as far back as 2500 years ago. The Cerneco bears a close resemblance to the Pharaoh Hound. It is native to Italy and named after Sicily’s Mt. Etna which is an active volcano.

The Cerneco is a naturally lean dog. Height is about 18-19 inches tall and weight, about 18-27 lbs. Ears stand straight and are pointed. Coat is short, thin and smooth. Brush weekly with a soft bristle brush.

The Cerneco is an affectionate family dog. As with all dogs, early training and socialization is advised using positive reinforcement. Short, frequent training periods are best. The Cerneco is an excellent watchdog. The Cerneco can get along with cats and other dogs, but their hunting instincts are tuned into chasing small animals and birds. The Cerneco requires a good amount of vigorous exercise and would be happy living with an active family. A yard or garden should have a secure, high fence as Cernecos are excellent jumpers.
