It really depends on the lizard itself. But geckos and skinks like to be taken out and played with. Chameloens and slower so you have less of a chance of loosing them, but they could care less about being taken out or being ignored. Also just go to the pet shop where you want to get one and handle all of them (it might be awkward, but it's totally worth it!).
