Stick insects belong to a group known as Phasmatodia or phasmids from the Greek "phasma" meaning phantom. They can be found in various shapes and sizes. Stick insects are herbivores feeding mainly on tree or shrub leaves. Generally recommendations are that different species should not be mixed. Unless you are an entomologist or a student of entomology, it's best to stick with one species. Either check with someone knowledgeable about stick insects or stay with one species. They can become prey if other species are mixed in with them.
