What is the origin of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog?

The Anatolian Shepherd is probably descended from Roman war dogs that came to Turkey more than 4,000 years ago. The Turkish name, Koban Copek means “shepherd’s dog.” Nomadic shepherds ranged over large areas and brought these dogs to defend livestock against predators. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog was introduced in the U.S. in the 1950s.

The tail is long and set high with a curl at the end. The thick coat can be short or medium length. Colors can be any colors, the most common is fawn with black ears and muzzle. Weekly brushing will remove dead hairs.
