What does the Irish Terrier look like?
The Irish Terrier is about 18 inches tall and weighs 25-27 lbs. The head is long and slightly narrow, sporting a small beard. Ears are small and v-shaped, dropping forward. Ears may need training to set properly, the breeder will explain what to do. Eyes are small. The tail is set high, about 1/4 docked off where this practice continues. The coat is double, wiry outercoat, soft, dense undercoat. Comb once a week, strip twice a year.
What is the temperament of the Irish Terrier?
Irish Terriers are independent, curious, bold dogs. They are strong-willed and should have early firm, positive obedience training and socialization. Irish Terriers are good with children and very playful. They are aggressive with other dogs and small animals. They are reserved with strangers. Irish Terriers are lively, active dogs and need vigorous exercise daily – a long walk and playtime. Since they love to chase anything, a secure fence and leashed while walking are required.
