The Alaskan Husky is not considered by all as a separate breed of dog, but as part of the Spitz types.
The Alaskan is very similar to the Siberian Husky but it is usually leaner than its relative. The Alaskan weighs 44-66 lbs. and is 23-26 inches tall. The eyes are generally brown, sometimes blue. The tail is very bushy. Coats are double and short to medium long and come in many colors.
The Alaskan Husky is friendlier and calmer than the Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute. Because they are friendly, they are not very good watchdogs and probably would be very accepting of strangers. They don’t bark much, but howl like wolves. They respond well to older children and get along with other dogs. However care should be taken around cats and other small pets.
The Alaskan Husky is a good companion for an active family as it requires lots of exercise. It is a high jumper and can even manage a 6 foot fence.
The Alaskan is speedy and an excellent sled dog for racing competitions. An apartment is not the best home unless it can have lots of exercise.
