It’s hard enough to watch your dog have to go through all kinds of painful and uncomfortable moments because of dog arthritis and or joint pain. But it’s a devastating feeling knowing that your dog hates to take pills and, worse, hates to take them when administered from you.
You love your dog and you’re only trying to help and do the right thing, right? It’s like a double whammy of sorts when your dog is in pain but then refuses to get the relief she needs because she won’t take the pill.
The majority of FlexPet dog owners happily report minor issues in this situation because it has a very appealing smell and flavor to dogs. But there are the occasional situations when Fido just won’t do the right thing.

1) Pop & Treat: This is where you train your dog to take pills with a treat as a reward. This takes a lot of patience at times, but if your dog likes getting tasty rewards, she’ll be taking her pills in no time.
2) Stealth: Here you trick your dog into thinking she’s getting a treat, but the pill is hidden inside the treat. As Dr. Becker rightly points out, be careful as your dog may start to wake up to this idea and simply at around the pill.
3) Compound Pharmacy: These are specialty pharmacies that can take the pill and re-work it into a mixture your dog will most likely love.
4) New Options: It’s always a good idea to check with your veterinarian to see if he or she has any lessor-known tips that have worked with their clients.
