What is the origin of the Russian Harlequin Hound?
The Russian Harlequin Hound was known as the Anglo-Russian Hound until 1951 when it became a breed on its own. It is believed crosses between the Russian Hound and the English Foxhound could be the ancestry of the Harlequin, probably occurring in late 19th century Russia. The Harlequin is rarely seen outside of Russia.

The Russian Harlequin is a medium sized dog. Height is 22-27 inches, weight, 40-70 lbs. Eyes are dark and oval-shaped. Ears are small, triangular and pendant. The coat is short and very thick. Colors are yellow and red, sometimes with a black saddle and/or small white markings.

The Russian Harlequin is an intelligent, obedient dog. As it wants to please, it is easily trained. They respond well to positive training. Harlequins are loving and loyal, good with children and other pets. They need lots of room to run and play and generally exercise and are not suited to apartment living. When out walking they should be leashed because their strong prey drive may lead them to chase other animals.
