What is the origin of the Russian Spaniel?

The Russian Spaniel ancestry probably began with the English Cocker Spaniel with later additions of different Spaniels and possibly Pointers. In the latter half of the 20th century Russian immigrants brought their dogs to the United States and Canada. The first Russian Spaniel Club was established in 2002 in North America.

The Russian Spaniel stands 15-17 3/4 inches tall and weighs 28-35 lbs. The coat lies very close to the skin, is medium long. Ears are long and dark colored. Ears and the back of the legs are fringed. Coat colors are white with black, brown or red spots, solids and tricolors. Regular brushing should keep the coat clean. Ears should be checked weekly.
