Update – Kasel Associates Industries is recalling all pet treats manufactured from April 20 thru September 19, 2012, due to potential salmonella contamination.
Honest Kitchen is voluntarily recalling 5 lots of Verve, Zeal and Thrive pet food products produced between August and November, 2012. There is a potential for salmonella contamination in these products. The products have been sold nationwide in the U.S. and Canada through retail stores, mail order and online after August 2012.
Honest Kitchen advises consumers to remove UPC bar code and lot cold from packaging, discard contents in a covered receptacle. For a full refund plus $1 to cover postage, mail the UPC code and lot code along with a completed Reimbursement Form to Honest Kitchen, 145 14th St., San Diego California, 92101, Attn. Reimbursements.

Kaytee is recalling a number of bird treats and greens due to a possible salmonella contamination. Products were distributed in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, Washington, Puerto Rico, Canada, Korea, Japan, Guam, Kuwait, Pakistan, Singapore and the UAE. Nutri-Vet LLC of Boise, Idaho recalls Nutri-Vet and NutriPet Chicken Jerky products due to possible salmonella contamination. For a full list of recalled products, please go to the FDA/CVM website.
The recalled Chicken Jerky products were distributed throughout the U.S. online and in retail stores from April 2012 through February 2013, best by dates April 20, 2014 through October 3, 2014. Hy-Vee Inc. issued a voluntary recall of some bags of Hy-Vee dog food due to elevated levels of a chemical contaminant, aflatoxin, found in corn. The recalled products were distributed to Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin between October 26, 2012 and January 11, 2013.
Any bags of Hy-Vee dog food subject to the recall, whether opened or unopened, may be returned to Hy-Vee stores for a full refund.
Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring chemical produced by the mold fungus Aspergillus, which is often found in corn, particularly during drought conditions. Pets that ingest higher-than-normal levels of aflatoxin, especially over a period of time, may become ill. Consumers who are concerned about illness in their pets as a result of consuming aflatoxin should contact their veterinarians.
