Yes, some Native American tribes had close relationships with their dogs. Some tribes forbade the killing of dogs for food. But not all tribes placed any value on dogs. Many tribes allowed their dogs to live in their lodges with the family and were considered pets. The dogs helped the people hunt, carried their goods and if necessary, tribe members in dog travois, and stood guard over their villages.
