Is it OK to get a large dog if you have small dogs?

I have two small dogs, and I am thinking about getting a third dog. This time, I'd like to get a larger breed. Can I get a large dog, like a German Shepherd, when I have smaller dogs, like maltipoos.

The size of a dog really doesn't make much difference unless they are fighting. Of course in that case the larger dog may have the advantage and could inflict serious damage to the smaller one. Actually, what matters is the dog's personality. I introduced a terrier pup to my 110 lb. German Shepherd when she weighed about 10 lbs. soaking wet (18 lbs. full grown) and they became best friends. The important thing is to introduce them properly. Please read our article about bringing another dog home.
