Do I need to feed my dog more in the winter?

+2 votes
My dogs seem to be hungry all the time lately. Do they need more food in the winter? I have a pug that tends to be on the heavy side and I don't want to feed her more than necessary. What should I do?

Most dogs are chow hounds and will eat all day if we let them. But they do need a bit more food in winter because they use more energy to generate body heat. Supplement your dog's diet with protein such as fresh meat. The amount of food depends on your dog's activity, health and age. Cut back on the food if she's adding on those unwanted pounds.
