My hamsters nails are getting a little too long yet not too long for discomfort, ive put a rock underneath his water bottle but it doesnt seem to be helping, before i resort to attempting to clip them has anyone got other suggestions as to how to manage the nails?

Try adding a rock with rough edges. Our home environments for hamsters don't help to keep their nails trimmed. You can glue sandpaper to a wheel or a towel roll to see if that helps. Just make sure the glue is non-toxic and let it dry thoroughly. If the nails are really long, don't attempt to cut them yourself. Have the vet do the trimming to avoid injury to the hamster.
