Do hermit crabs have two large claws?

+1 vote
My hermit crab has only one claw. Did he lose it? It was already missing when I bought him from Petco.

Hermit crabs have 5 pairs of legs - 10 legs. They use mainly 4 pairs to move around. They have feeler hairs on their legs.  The 2 back legs are very small. The 2 legs in the front are very large and used to grasp objects. You should check with Petco where you purchased him to find out what happened.

I did and they said he lost his front leg because of stress when they shipped him over. :) Thanks!
I think it's great that you're giving him a home in spite of the loss of his leg. He's one lucky crab!
