Is it OK if I let my cat eat the dog's food?

I get special food for cats and dogs. The cat has access to his food all the time. The dog sometimes leaves over some of his food after feeding time. Is it OK to let my cat eat my dogs leftovers?

No, because dog food lacks certain essential ingredients for cats. While dogs can make their own Vitamin A and taurine (an amino acid), cats need these supplements added to their food. They are lacking in most dog foods. Taurine deficiencies can lead to heart disease in cats.  And too, there is not enough protein in dog food to satisfy a cat's need. Always check the ingredients in the cat food you purchase to make sure vitamins and taurine are added.
