What is the correct temperature for goldfish?

I have a new tank with goldfish. Do I need to heat the tank? What's the correct temperature?

The ideal water temperature for goldfish is between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is a bit cooler in winter, most goldfish will tolerate the small change. Depending on the species of goldfish, those in outdoor ponds can survive icy conditions, but only for a brief period.
