What can I do to make my son less afraid of our new puppy?

+1 vote

We recently added a new addition to our family - a little rescue puppy that we got at our local shelter. Our 3-year-old son was there when we picked out the pup and was excited when we brought the new pup home, but now he seems to be afraid. The puppy wants to play all the time and has a lot of energy, and it seems to be too much for our son to handle. What can we do to calm our son's fears?

Perhaps inviting your son to be a part of the pup's care will help - feeing, going with you and the pup on walks. Puppies are very active and can be overwhelming for small children,. Take your pup to doggie kindergarten for training and have your son accompany you and the pup to help ease his fears. Don't leave your son and the pup alone together. Keep an eye on them to see what is happening.
