A cat's whiskers are as long as the body is wide. This enables the cat to measure an opening to see if s/he can fit through. The whiskers are very sensitive and can feel the slightest air currents allowing the cat to feel its way in the dark without bumping into objects. Angry cats often pull their whiskers back while contented ones whiskers are in the normal position. Blind cats can get around more easily thanks to their whiskers. Cutting a cat's whiskers puts them at a great disadvantage and is a cruel act.
