Mantis shrimp come in a bunch of varieties. Colorful ones, like the peacock mantis shrimp shouldn't lose their color if kept correctly in a salt water aquarium, but they don't really make the best pets. They are agressive preditors that may eat other fish you keep in your tank. Some of the larger species have been know to break the glass of their aquariums by striking it. I think that the best way to appreciate mantis shrimp is to visit them at your local aquarium.
