Zoonotic diseases are those that can be transferred between animals and humans. One example would be rabies which is transmitted to humans through the saliva of a rabid animal. Another example are strains of flu from animals and some that your pet can catch from you. The best way to avoid these illnesses is to wash hands thoroughly after handling your pet and your pet's food. If you are down with the flu, try to keep your pet away as much as possible.
