Are female cats calmer than male cats?

I want to get a cat for my daughter. I was wondering if it would be better to get a male or female one. I'd rather a cat that is calmer. Does gender make any difference?

Gender doesn't determine a cat's personality. Both males and females can be calm. They each have their own pluses and minuses, but it really depends on the individual cat.  When you visit the shelter, speak to the people working there as they pretty much know the personalities of each cat. Then spend some time with cats of both sexes which hopefully will make your decision easier.
