Why can't chickens fly?

Are there wild breeds of chickens that can fly? What happened that made them flightless?

Yes, the ancestors of modern chickens did fly, although not as well as other birds. All poultry have smaller  wings and feet which are adapted to walking on the ground. Selective breeding by humans to create meatier birds have produced large breasted birds and smaller wings. Their body structure makes them unable to fly.
