Honey, it’s cold outside

Me and Zahava 2 years ago (my first snow)

Winter is here. It’s getting pretty cold outside. Mom set up a little shelter for the strays to stay out of the rain. A couple of the bigger boys have figured out how to break into the house anyway. Buddy has taken his place, all curled up on the coach. Mom’s going to let him and Leo stay inside while the weather is bad. The other kitties haven’t tried to make it in.

There has been a lot of talk on the news about how this has been the worst winter in a long time. The Pet Wiki has a great article about how to keep your pets warm during the winter. Something to remember – just because us pets have fur coats does not mean that we are equipted to handle whatever mother nature throws at us.

I think that my favorite part of this whole winter thing is that we get more food. We need it to help us keep warm. Mom’s careful not to over do it. There is also a big problem with obesity in pets to consider. A little more food, yes. Too much food, no.

The folks are staying inside more as the weather gets bad, too. It’s nice to spend time cuddling on a warm lap. Mom sometimes complains that she can’t type with a ball of fur on her lap. She seems to do a pretty good job to me. I always have fur on my lap when I type, and you don’t see me complaining.

My own secret trick for keeping warm in the winter: writing this blog. It takes an enourous amount of energy for me to type. So I guess if you want to really keep your pets warm in the winter, have them write a blog. If you think that they might like to try it out, I’m always happy to have guests add their own two cents to the scratching post. Just give a meow out to me if they are interested.
